Software is seeing units, threat rings, etc but there is no map showing. Not seeing any export.lua type file to add to the one in my saved games. Moving maps is excluded in anti-virus and is seeing port and such. Any ideas?

Hello, very good software, however as of today only the Windows version works for me but it does not connect with my Android version, a few days ago it worked but now it no longer works, I checked the IPs and everything is fine, any solution please thank you so much. I have the free version, before purchasing I want to make sure everything is fine, or do I need to purchase for it to work?

Hi Gonzalo,
it could be that your Android App updated automatically to the latest version, while you still have the old Windows version. The latest update requires you to change the movingmap-hook.lua file in your SavedGames/DCS/scripts/hooks folder in order to work.
You can find the file packed in the Windows Version zip file on the Download page of this website.
Let me know if that solved your connection problems!

In the free android version i can move the map for 5 seconds and then it just doesnt want to move even if its not centered i have trie reinstalling but it didnt work

The latest update includes a lot of fixes to connection issues and also some performance improvements. Please download the latest release from this website (Windows version) or the PlayStore (Android version). Let me know if that solved your problems.

Andrioid version is no longer working. Windows version works perfectly. The Andoid versions used to work. WD rules are set corectly. It appears that the apps are not receiving data from DCS.

Hello... Just got android app and it crashes(?) (closes to desktop, no crash report) aprox. 2 seconds in a loading screen (both versions... free and paid)... (Redmi Pad SE 8/256; Android 14; completelly new device) tried reinstalling, deleting app data, restarting, still same. It is common problem with some devices, it is new problem or am I missing something?Used Windows version in both server and host settings before without any issue. I don't own any other android device (actually this is my first one, bought specially for this app), so I can't check if it work elsewhere.

Hello, As sent via mail the android FULL version is not receiving data from dcs. Export is working fine because the windows version is receiving the data. The app on android mobile has no restrictions on internet access.

Hi Jerry, could it be that the entered IP address does not match that of your tablet? Also make sure that DCS and MovingMap have in/out network rights in Windows Defender.

I have already tested installing the windows version of Moving Map on a second PC with DCS running on the primary machine and all is working great.In order for that to work, the IP (static and of course a different one than the tablet IP) is correct and firewall needs to have in/out rights in WD. Anyway is not working even with WD disabled at all.
Tried with different tablets. Ping is working and is fast from pc to tablet and viceversa.
Tried uninstalling. Tried the free version. No luck.
I have Helios, Dcs NAV and UFC, Spacedesk, Dcs Util, Matric, DCSFP, TrackIR, Vjoy running in background. Tried disabling them all but some services could continue running. Could there be any known compatibility issues?

Same Problem here....Moving Map on Windows is running, but not on Tablet (2 different Tablets tested).DCS and Moving Map are added to WD inbound and outbound Rules.Port 50000 is opened in Router-Software (exactlty like i needed to open 10308 for DCS).IPs are correct; i can Ping the Tablets. Tablets are showing "No data from DCS".I found out that Port 50000 is not opened when running DCS with Moving Map. Checked that with canyouseeme.og/ yougetsignal.com.
From hosting DCS Multiplayerserver i know that Port 10308 is only visible/opne when the Server is running.

Hi EnZiC, I have not tested it with the Steam version. But as long as it has a local folder where you can place the export files it should work. You can download the free Caucasus version of the app and try it out.

Hi Kola, I have received some reports about virus/trojan alerts: it seems to be related to the way Python scripts are packed for Windows (see this article). These reports are false-positives, there is definitively no virus or trojan in my code!

Hi OAKLAKE, I've never experienced any DCS crashes due to the use of MovingMap - very strange. Your dcs.log file (found in SavedGames/DCS(.openbeta)/Logs) should give you a clue what caused the crash, could you please have a look?

I'm trying to get this to work, I added the Mods & scripts into DCS Saved Games & inputted my IP4 into DCS MM in Specials Tab.
However in the in the DCS MMap download folder, when I unzip the folder, the DCS MovingMap.exe keeps disappearing.
Any ideas?

Hi Nato, that's very strange. Please check if any Antivirus or Malware Software blocks/deletes the exe file. There seem to be reports of simular cases: https://windowsreport.com/exe-files-deleting-themselves/

You can recover the movingmap.exe by accessing the smartscreen config and history screen.

Hi Morphine, the LAT/LON values in parenthesis () are already given in Degrees Decimal Minutes, although only to two decimal places. I could change that to three if needed.

For you VR users, I was able to bring Moving Map into VR using the excellent Open Kneeboard's Window Capture function. There is no noticeable performance hit. I don't have a tablet so I'm not able to manipulate the Moving Map settings/options which I guess is additional reason for key and button binding functionality.

App should should dynamically scale for each display that they're running on.
I have big TV-screen with scale factor of 300%. The MovingMap app is to big, and if I try decrease it by dragging the borders, the map becomes to small hidden by app buttons and info texts.

Is there a refresh button to clear out all the killed enemies?I have noticed when killed or a bunch of ppl are together in 1 spot all u see is white from the text box displaying the names (a cluster), is there a way to make it transparent so u can see when there name without a white box ? I luv the app I'm a new player to DCS and this little app really stepped up my game, thank you again.

Hey, es hat alles geklappt, wie ich es mir vorgestellt habe. Ich wollte es benutzen um Daten von der F10 Karte direkt in mein UFC einzutippen, weil sonst die UFC Anzeige leider nicht funktioniert. ABER die gegnerischen Ziele werden leider an der falschen Position angezeigt, außerdem auch nicht vollständig. Wenn das klappen würde, wäre es nahezu perfekt.
EDIT: Die Koordinatenanzeige umzustellen in zb. Dezimalsekunden wäre noch besser, weil man bei der F/A-18C diese Daten öfter braucht. LG

I'm trying to get the Moving Map to work with the DCS Dedicated Server but it's not connecting (showing offline)
I moved the hooks and service as explained in the installation directions and manually edited the file "movingmap-hook.lua" to enter the computer's IP address (same as the one displayed when going into the settings page of Moving Map).
Anything else I need to do?

Hi Stephan, don't edit the .lua files! Enter your ip in the 'Special' > 'MovingMap' tab within DCS. If it still does not work, check if any Antivirus/Firewall/WindowsDefender blocks network traffic.

I got the app working on my android phone and it works flawlessly, albeit with a small screen, so I've tried running it on the computer I'm playing DCS on but on a different monitor and all I have are threat rings, labels, and a bullseye for center. There's no map it's just a blank white background with no markers either. Any idea how I fix this?

Hi DragonSoulkin, this sounds like MovingMap cannot find the folders with the symbols and maps in it. Did you maybe relocate the DCS_MovingMap.exe? It has to be in the same directory as the /g and /map folders to work. Please check and report if that solved your issues.

I'm loving this program, it works great but I'm wondering if I can replace the Caucasus base map with a different image? Are the coordinates/scale of the basemap hard coded into the executable, od is there a way I can enter the lat/long of the corners of the new image into the program so it knows how to scale everything? If not, can I just use a different image if I ensure that it has the same dimensions and coverage area?

Hi Andy! As you correctly assumed, the map size and reference coordinates are fixed in the code. You can replace the maps in the '/map' folder of the Windows version as long as the new image is of the same type (JPG), size (pixels x by y), extent (lat/long) and has the same filename. If any of these values differ, the map will not be loaded or objects on it will be at the wrong position.

Andy, you can easily read the coordinates from each map. Every lat/long degree line has its label to it. The top/left corner of the Caucasus map for example is at N 47° / E 035°.

Hi Sharky, could you be a bit more specific? Is the app is running but has no connection to DCS or does it not run at all? If the app is running but says 'offline' then try to grant network access in your android app settings on your device, your router and also in Windows firewall. Let me know if any of this helped.

Hi Roe, for the fullscreen issue, are you referring to the Windows version? If the app dissapears in fullsscreen then this would be an issue with your screen layout in Windows. MovingMap should have no problem running in fullscreen.
The map contrast is a compromise between readability of map items and DCS objects. I will try to make this adjustable in a future update.

I did not read instructions carefully; it has to be on different computer then DCS is running.

Hi Andrzej, MovingMap can of course be on the same computer as DCS, there is just the option to run it on a network if required.
You have to put the 'Mods' and 'Scripts' folder to the DCS Saved Games folder on your DCS computer (usually found at C:\Users\YourUserName\Saved Games\DCS[.openbeta]\). NOT the DCS folder on your 'programs' drive.
Let me know if that solved your issues. If not, we'll find another way!

The current maps used are a compromise between app size / performance and map resolution. I have an idea of how to use higher resolution maps without slowing the app down or making it too big, but that would require a lot of work as well.
So WIP on both your topics, but it will take some time.

Hi, I've got a problem with kneeboards in the Android version. It doesn't work any of the images I've tried. They are all jpg, granted all permissions and tried several folder locations. Is there any particular specification for the image that I can try? Like size, resolution. Thanks in advance.

Hi Santi, are the images displayed in the browser and do not open, or are they not even shown in the browser? In the former case, try to reduce the image size/resolution. MovingMap is sometimes unable to open large images on some older tablets.

Hi Juan, have you followed all the steps described in the Download section for the Windows version? (This is needed for the Android version as well as it enables DCS data export). If so, please check the hints given in the Troubleshooting section (maybe a firewall or Windows Defender is blocking data transfer). Let me know if problems still persist.

This Version has an integrated picture viewer. You can add pictures (of charts, procedures, checklists...) to a folder on your device and use the app as an electronic kneeboard. To try it yourself, install the free version for the Caucasus map. It includes all features of the full version.

Thank you for this amazing app! I'm quite happy with the current features although I would love if a couple of extra features were available in the future:- I often fly multiplayer missions with some friendsz, and being the mission designer, I like to replace the original map used by the app with an edited version of mine, where I add points of reference, notes, marks etc. Unfortunately this is impossible to do with the android version as the map images are integrated in the app, therefore it would be amazing whether the app could be instructed to import external maps instead of using the standard one.- it would be amazing to import (or manually add) the location of bullseye, and being able to obtain the bearing/distance of a marking point relative to it

Hi again! i noticed that the ground units show for couple seconds on map then just dissapear and remains an x at its position, how i can fix this

Hi! Units are replaced by an X symbol, if their data has not been updated for more than 10 seconds (eg they have been killed or have crashed).
On slower networks or in missions with a lot of units, this can happen even if the unit is still alive, just because their data takes more than 10 seconds to update.
Are all your units being replaced by that X symbol? And do the Xses stay or do they change between unit symbol and X? There might also be some other program or firewall restricting your network traffic.

Hi Bingo Fuel! Thank you for your message. I have installed the new version from the PlayStore myself now on several devices and always get a good connection. Please check if you have set the correct device IP in the DCS Special Settings and let me know if that solved the problem.

Bingo Fuel, I have to correct myself: I just found an error that could cause your issues: please download and install the new window version (2.6) from the download section of this website and copy the (also new) movingmap-hook.lua file to your DCS Saved Games directory (goes into Scripts/Hooks).

Just a question about the units displayed or not.
The option "allied only" is activated for the F10 view in the mission editor.But all friendly and enemy units are displayed in your application.What did I do wrong?

Hi Tripack, the map view options only work in multiplayer. In singleplayer, all units are exported by DCS. At the moment, there is nothing I can do about that, sorry.

Hi, the app runs flawlessly on PC but unfortunately the Android Version crashes a few seconds after start on my Fire Tablet.I got the splashscreen with one short flicker after few seconds an then I'm back on mainscreen.
I tried the free version on Fire HD8 (7.Gen) and Fire HD10 (7.Gen)
FireOS Version: 5.6.9.0 (659658220)
Android Version: 5.1.1

yes - the Marianas map is planned to be included in a future update. But at the moment I don't have too much time for developing and also only very few people seem to have interest in buying the full version with all the maps.

Hi Waves 1.1, I found that older tablets work but are unable to load the map. Could you please share details to the device you are using and the operating system version?

same problem here. as you mentioned, this occurs on older Android devices. In my case an Asus Transformer TF300T with Android version 7.1.2. Everything works except for the map display which remains black.

Having a similar issue where the map doesn't display but all other symbols and functionality work. Tablet is a Lenovo TB-8505FS, running Android 10.

DCS is a flight simulator, so my goal was to provide aviation maps for it. What for would you want to use other maps?

Hi, app is running fine for me (PC), I was able to open a window (black background) with cursors for two settings (transparency, and ?.....), I don't how I had this and I am not able to re-open this window. Can you tell me how I can have it again ? Thanks

Hello, great work! I install the app in a Amazon fire tablet with OS 5.1 and try to Open but the app Close and crash. Other Android devices works fine.

Hi really looking forward to using this but cant get to work ive copied the folders into the right places i think but keep getting no map showing.

Hi Chris, sorry to hear you got troubles getting DCS MovingMap to work, but no worries - we'll sort this out!
If you see a message saying "no map" than you might have got the old version. Make sure you download the new one from this website. It shows the Caucasus map on startup, then detects the actual theatre as soon as it has a connection to DCS. So in the new version, you should always see a map.
If you copied the folders to their correct position, then you should have the DCS MovingMap Option in the DCS settings menu. Do you? Have you entered your devices IP adress there?
Let me know if these steps helped.

Thanks for the prompt reply yes i have the option in DCS but still get the no map showing it says version 0.22 in the top left i also think the wlan thing is causing me some confusion

OK, that's what I thought. You have installed the OLD version if it says ver. 0.22. Please download and install the NEW one from this website here and you should be good.

If the tablet is in the same network as your main computer, then it should work. DCS MovingMap tries to find out your devices IP adress and shows it on the settings screen (click on the "connected" sign at the top center to get there). Enter this IP adress in DCSs Options IP field.

Done that bud it gives me the ip add and it ties it in with what it sys but on the tablet it say offline?

OK, first lets find out if your DCS can export data. For that, enter your DCS computers IP and launch the Windows version (DCS_MovingMap.exe). If this also shows "offline" then check if something on your computer restricts network traffic (e.g. antivirus, Windows Defender ...).
If the Windows version works, then make sure you entered the correct IP of your tablet. This is how you find out your IP:
1) Go to Settings >> Wireless & networks/WLAN, or Settings >> Network & Internet >> Wi-Fi.
2) Tap on the Wi-Fi you are connected to, then it will show the network info including signal strength, security, MAC address and IP address.Enter this IP in DCS Options and give it another try.
